What they teach: French Horn, Baritone, Euphonium, Trumpet, Music Theory, Piano
Everyone who reads this has found their way to the French Horn and the beautiful sound it creates. Whether you chose it because of the music from Star Wars, its funny shape, or you found out Ariana Grande played it in High School, you’ve chosen a beautiful instrument. With time, focus, and practice you will be able to create music.
My long term goal is not just to help students solve problems in playing at that moment, but to make sure the students can ask the right questions to be able to solve problems on their own. The student is an active participant of the lesson and will engage in musical conversation. These discussions will expand beyond our lessons and further into their life as musicians as they understand how to be attentive of their own sound and music making in relation to themselves and others. I also incorporate a more holistic approach to teaching, incorporating music theory, aural skills, and rhythmic exercises to build a better understanding of the horn’s musical role. I respect my students and the effort that they intend to put towards practice, but every lesson I expect the student to bring their instrument, a metronome, tuner, their sheet music including any assignments I provide, as well as their own valve oil and slide grease. The ideas presented during instruction I provide opens their ears to both an ideal sound and understanding the problems in their music making. I am here to help students learn musical skills that help enrich their life and continue to change themselves in a positive manner.
Every teacher has a great impact on the student, and that is something I treat with great care. I am only a temporary presence in the lives’ of students, but I hope music continues to enrich their lives even beyond their instrument and musical education.
